Pipe 1000!! - 5 Star Chrysalis

LCS Briars pipe 1000, finally we’ve arrived at this massive milestone. I’ve worked on this pipe for a few days now. I set this block aside a while ago with the fervent hope that the block would remain clean. I did have my heart in my mouth a few times as I sanded past some tiny black points, thankfully none turned into black holes. The shape is called Chrysalis, a term coined by my good friend Johnny (onion) Mannion. I’ve decided to stay true to his choice. This is the third Chrysalis I’ve made and each has been beautiful in its own way. The band is gold and laser engraved with ‘LCS BRIARS’ ‘1000’ ‘London Made’ and ‘Millenium Edition’. The pipe is also stamped with 5 stars and the rarely used SUPERGRAIN stamp. The stem is salmon/black cumberland. I selected a rod which was more salmon than black to partner the lighter ‘natural’ color of the stummel. A pipe maker can only succeed with the blessing of pipe smokers and I’m eternally grateful to the pipe smoking community for their blessing and support over the past, just over five years, of pipe making.
